Blessed Patrick O’Healy

Born around 1545 in Dromahair, Co. Leitrim, Patrick O’Healy joined the Franciscan Order and pursued his studies in Spain. Returning to Ireland, he became Bishop of Mayo and worked tirelessly to strengthen the faith during a time of persecution.

Execution

In 1579, Bishop O’Healy was captured by English forces and executed for his steadfast loyalty to the Catholic faith. His courage and devotion made him one of Ireland’s earliest martyrs of the Reformation era.

Beatification

He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992, recognised for his unwavering faith and sacrifice.

A native of Killenummery, educated locally and ordained in 1950. Served in several parishes across the diocese and was known for his pastoral care and dedication to community life.

Served as curate in Killenummery during the mid‑20th century. Remembered for his compassion and commitment to parish education.

Fr. Frank Cosgrove

Ordained in 1962, Fr. Cosgrove served in Ballintogher and surrounding parishes. His ministry was marked by humility and deep devotion to parishioners.

Fr. Dan Kelly

Born in the parish, ordained in 1975. His work focused on youth outreach and parish renewal, leaving a lasting legacy of faith and service.
